Laudate pueri Dominum à 7: ChI SSA; ChII ATTB
Remarks: Michael Praetorius, in Syntagma Musicum III, pp. 153–54, demonstrates possible instrumental scorings using the above motets by Lasso as examples.
For Laudate pueri Dominum, Praetorius suggests that the two soprano parts of the first choir be taken by two transverse flutes or two descant violins or two cornetts, with the alto part being sung; in the second choir, the alto part is to be sung, and the two tenor parts and the bass played by trombones: ChI 2Vn/2Fl/2Ctto, A; ChII A, 3Trb. Laudate pueri is also found in D-Rp A.R. 775–777 with the instrumentation 2Bomb, 2Ctto, 3Trb (see Lasso in Instrumental Music).
