13. Ferdinadus tertius, Te Deum laudamus Venezia à 10 & 14: ChI Ctto e S, S [e Ctto?]; ChII T, 3V; ChIII ATTB; ChIV SATB cap; VaG, Org.
The second Ctto part is editorial because the second soprano part of ChI is incomplete in PL-WRu and does not contain this piece.
PLW, The Early Trombone :
13. Te Deum laudamus: ChI SST; ChII T, 3Vn; ChIII ATTB; ChIV S&Ctto, A&Tuba, T&Tuba, B&Tuba; 2VaG&2Org
Remarks: The identification of the instruments intended for the parts marked Tuba is somewhat problematic: in no. 10. Incipite Domino, choir 2, the soprano-clef Tuba part was most likely intended for cornett, although Peter Downey has suggested the use of a soprano trombone [very unlikely in our opinion]; of the Tres Tubae in choir 3, only the second (tenor-clef ) part can be played on a natural trumpet, making it likely that these three Tuba parts were intended for trombones. In no. 13. Te Deum laudamus, choir 4, the three Tuba parts are virtually devoid of any trumpet-like writing, and thus probably intended for trombones. An additional piece, no. 12. Atollite portas Principes, a version different from that found in Rauch’s 1635 publication (see above), also calls for tres Tubaes, but these three parts are entirely suitable for natural trumpets. A manuscript copy of Incipite Domino was also in the Knigliche-und Universitäts-Bibliothek in Knigsberg, but probably destroyed in World War II.
