Anno 1662, is a manuscript score collection—also known as the Gotha Partitur-Buch or Partitur-Buch Ludwig—presented to Duke August II of Brunswick-Wolfenbttel (1579–1666) on the occasion of his birthday (10 April 1662) by Jakob Ludwig ( Jacobo Ludovico). Other com posers represented in the volume include Bertali, Oswald, Piscator, and Schmelzer. The preparation of performing editions from Cod. Guelf.34.7.Aug.2° will require a good deal of judicious editing in view of the many scribal errors in the manuscript. Poschett is a variant of the French word pochette, known in English as a‘kit’ or‘dancing master’s fiddle’.
Remarks: In Cod. Guelf.34.7.Aug.2°, the instruments are not designated in the score, but given in the index as 2. Viol: Cornett: 3. Tromb: è quart Fagott. This sonata is also preserved in CZ-KRa A 585, where the instrumentation is 3Vn, 3Va, Bc.
